About Me
I offer clients a space to reflect and rebuild, a place to grow in the midst of life’s journeys. I recognize the transformative power of personal exploration and help clients discover health, wholeness, and understanding. Our past influences who we are and yet we are not its prisoners; we are always capable of becoming our own best selves.
My approach is emotion-focused and experiential. I work from the assumption that emotional bonds are necessary throughout our lives. Your emotions do not rule you, they simply provide you with valuable information. We will work together to bring your emotions into session in order to help you become more mindful of them. We also will work to complete unfinished business from your past that might unconsciously be showing up in your present life.
Each client is unique so I utilize an individualized, integrative approach rooted in attachment theory, which emphasizes the importance of relationships in our lives. I draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches (e.g., emotion-focused, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic, existential, etc.) to tailor the experience to your needs. I specialize in Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP).
Whether you are working through anxiety, depression, substance abuse, a difficult childhood, or you just need someone to talk with, I can help you create new meaning and new understanding in your stuck places. I am a certified AEDP Therapist and have completed a core training program certified by the International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association. I attend clinical supervision with Diane Byster in order to maintain a clear focus on helping my clients. I also have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT), which is helpful in the work I do with individuals who also are in couples counseling. These approaches are designed to help you change and meet your goals. Our focus: helping you feel and deal at the same time.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia (LPC009687). In addition to my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University, I also hold Masters degrees from New York University and Garrett Theological Seminary. Prior to starting my own practice I worked at one of Atlanta's premier integrative practices. I also worked at one of Atlanta's oldest and most well respected community mental health agencies. In my previous professional lives I worked for large nonprofit organizations and a consumer research company.
I am active in Atlanta's therapeutic community and have rich relationships with therapists throughout the metro area. I am a dog lover and have been involved in rescue work for a number of years. My dogs are named Tug and Rosie, and my cat is named Twyla. Music is a passion of mine, but at this point in my life I no longer perform, I only listen. Vinyl makes up the largest part of my music collection. I am also an avid reader who still prefers the feel of print over digital.
